Data Strategist
Atlanta, GA (Hybrid)
Full-time (Contract)
Block+Tackle helps enterprise marketing organizations get their arms around the data, platforms, and ambition they already have. We don't rip and replace. We diagnose how process, people, and technology intersect, then we make what's there actually work.
We're hiring a Data Strategist to sit at the center of that diagnosis for our enterprise marketing clients. You are the person who walks into an enterprise marketing organization — Fortune 1000 scale, multiple martech platforms, years of accumulated data debt — and figures out what the data is actually capable of telling them, what it can't, and what has to change for the gap to close.
This is not a dashboard-building role. This is not a data engineering role. This is a strategy role that requires enough technical fluency to be dangerous and enough business judgment to know which findings matter.
What You'll Own
Lead data discovery and assessment engagements: audit client data ecosystems (CDP, CRM, marketing automation, analytics platforms, data warehouses) and map what exists against what the client's marketing strategy requires
Translate ambiguous executive asks ("we want to be more data-driven") into concrete, sequenced data roadmaps with defensible prioritization
Design measurement frameworks: KPI architectures, attribution approaches, and reporting structures that survive contact with real organizational politics
Identify where the client's problem is actually a process or people problem wearing a technology costume — and say so
Build the analytical foundation for growth programs: segmentation strategies, trial-to-loyalty loops, lifecycle measurement
Present findings and recommendations directly to VP and C-level marketing stakeholders
Work alongside our Martech, CX Strategy, and Marketing Operations practices — data strategy at Block+Tackle never lives in isolation
You Will Not
Maintain pipelines or own production data infrastructure
Spend your days in a BI tool making charts someone else specified
Recommend a platform replacement as the default answer to every problem
What You Bring
5–8 years in data strategy, marketing analytics, or analytics consulting — with meaningful time spent inside or serving enterprise marketing organizations
Fluent across the modern marketing data stack: you can hold a credible conversation about CDPs, warehouse-native architectures, identity resolution, and attribution without a slide deck
Hands-on enough to interrogate the data yourself: SQL proficiency required; comfort with a BI platform (Tableau, Looker, Power BI) expected
You've seen martech implementations succeed and fail, and you can articulate why in terms of process and adoption, not just configuration
Consulting temperament: comfortable with ambiguity, client-facing by default, able to write and present clearly under time pressure
You have a point of view and can defend it — but you change your mind when the data says to
Nice to Have, but Not Required
Experience with campaign intelligence or orchestration tooling
CDP implementation experience (Segment, mParticle, Salesforce Data Cloud, etc.)
Prior agency or boutique consultancy experience
Engagement Structure
Initial term: Contract engagement (duration and hours scoped during the interview process)
Conversion path: Contract-to-perm for the right fit — we'd rather prove the match on real work than guess in an interview
Rate: Competitive, commensurate with experience; discussed early in the process
